The Score So Far!

Being our first competitive match in over 12 months the team ventured to the south coast with a certain amount of trepidation. Our previous matches at Totton are always very close, competitive (rough) and exhausting. However, our last two matches, if memory serves me correctly were defeats for the away team. As we could only muster a six-man/woman (person) team we had no illusions of returning home with three points.

A new team formation was to be tried and for some peculiar reason we clicked from the start and seemed to function extremely well as a team. As the away team we were coloured black and were defending the deep end of the pool. As we had packed the midfield with three of our strongest players we managed to stifle the best efforts of the Totton team. No octopush match is ever easy so even though the first half ended, with ourselves in the lead by three goals to nil, it was not an easy half by any means.

The second half began with the Totton team making a sterling effort to break our five-man defence of the shallow end. For what seemed an age we were pinned quite considerably in our own half and Totton very nearly scored which could well have changed the complexion of the game. However, we managed, to keep Totton at bay throughout the half and eventually ran out winners of the match with a six to nil score line.

The game was, as ever, played in good spirits and our thanks go to the Totton team for making the Caversham team very welcome in the after match relaxation in their local public house.
